Mary Holland Commemorative Lectures in 2005 and 2007
Description
An account of the resource
The Mary Holland Commemorative Lecture series was inaugurated in 2005 by the Irish Hospice Foundation as part of its awareness raising campaign concerning issues surrounding the deficiencies in end-of-life care for many terminal illnesses and in recognition of a journalist who was renowned for her passionate and tireless advocacy for the powerless.
The Irish Hospice Foundation, in association with the Irish Times, and in partnership with Kitty Holland and her family, organised the Inaugural Mary Holland Commemorative Lecture on July 7th 2005 at 7.00pm in the Mansion House.
The Mary Holland Commemorative Lecture is a bi-annual event. The Inaugural Lecture was organised as a large public event, and was held as an evening Lecture in the Mansion House, and was attended by 550 people, followed by a Reception for 120 friends and family members hosted by the Lord Mayor in the Oak Room.
The second Lecture in 2007 was a smaller, more intimate event, which was held at lunchtime in the Members Room of the Royal Irish Academy, and was attended by 100 people. A Reception was held beforehand for all attendants, and a Private luncheon was organised for 14 invitees with Lord Patten.
