<dcterms:description><![CDATA[Irish Hospice foundation press Release. The IRISH HOSPICE FOUNDATION TO SPEND MORE THAN €2.5 MILLION ON CHILDREN’S PALLIATIVE CARE CONSULTANT AND FIVE OUTREACH NURSES FOR CHILDREN WITH LIFE-LIMITING CONDITIONS..The Irish Hospice Foundation (IHF) has committed itself to funding Ireland’s first children’s palliative care consultant and five of eight outreach nurses in the community. The nurses will provide support and co-ordinate care for children with life-limiting illnesses at home. ..Over five years, with the agreement of the Department of Health and Children and the HSE, the IHF will raise more than €2.5 million to meet this commitment...The IHF announced this following the launch yesterday by the Minister of State for Children, Barry Andrews, of the Palliative Care for children with life-limiting conditions in Ireland—A National Policy, at the Government Press Centre, Government Buildings in Dublin. ..Among the recommendations is that the HSE should develop an implementation plan, and that a consultant paediatrician with a special interest in palliative care for children should be appointed as well as regionally based children’s outreach nurses. It is also stated that a National Development Committee for Children’s Palliative Care should be established. ..Mr Eugene Murray, Chief Executive of the Irish Hospice Foundation, warmly welcomed the new policy. He said the IHF would also continue to organise and fund palliative care training for nurses across a range of specialities. ..A kernel IHF philosophy was that hospice and palliative care should be available to everyone who required it, he said... There are about 1400 children with life-limiting conditions in Ireland with about 350 deaths each year, the majority in the first year of life. ]]></dcterms:description>
