It identifies two KPIs that seem particularly appropriate for this purpose -  proportion of deaths in hospital and  proportion of deaths at home – and  highlights the need for corresponding KPIs for Specialist Palliative Care services and community services.]]></dcterms:abstract>

    <dcterms:abstract><![CDATA[The first ever national audit of end-of-life life care in Irish Hospitals. 43 hospitals participated in the audit; 24 acute and 19 community.<br />
The audit reveals a picture where admissions to hospital<br />
are typically unplanned and uncoordinated and where there is great variability in the<br />
quality of care offered to patients with different conditions. At the same time, every<br />
effort is made to allow patients die in a single room despite resource constraints, and<br />
to facilitate relatives to be with the patient as much as possible right to the end.]]></dcterms:abstract>
