The footage features interviews with Dr John McCarthy from Our Lady's hospice in Harold's cross Dublin discussing the lack of pain control and hospice services for terminal patients. The footage also features interviews with a GP and Margo Mc Cambridge Matron of the Royal Hospital on issues related to providing care for terminally ill patients and controlling pain. A lengthy interview with Pauline Ellis a young woman with terminal cancer dying in our lady's hospice Harolds Cross. Pauline talks about her care in Our Lady's. This episode of Today Tonight was aired on April 23 1986, a day after the official launch of the Irish Hospice Foundation and its discussion about the state of care for dying patients generated an enormous response from viewers who contacted the hospice foundation offering donations and help. It was instrumental in raising public awareness of the lack of dedicated hospice care for the terminally ill and helped the Irish Hospice Foundation begin its campaign to extend hospice and palliative care across Ireland.

An account of the resource
In 2003 singer and composer Gavin Friday along with his musical collaborator Maurice Seezer created the first Irish adaptation of Sergei Prokofiev's classic 'Peter and the Wolf'. A CD box set was created accompanied by a 64-page cloth-bound book illustrated by U2’s Bono and his daughters Jordan and Eve.
The book was officially launched on October 1 2003.
The original art work by Bono, with canvases up to 20 foot long went on an exhibition tour of three countries. The exhibitions took place in;
City Hall, Dublin - 1st-3rd October 2003
Christie’s, London - 6th -8th October 2003
Christie’s, Los Angeles - 13th -15th October 2003
Christie’s, New York - 20th-21st November 2003
The artwork was auctioned by Christie's New York on November 21 2003.
The project raised €850,000 for the Irish Hospice Foundation between 2003 - 2005

Sunflower days began in 1990 and is one of the key national fundraising events for hospice services in Ireland.
Events are organised nationally with proceeds going to local voluntary hospice organisations. The aim is to raise support for local hospice services with all funds raised locally, staying local.
Sunflower Days developed to become an annual event taking place over two days in June each year.
Volunteers are recruited across the country to fundraise by selling Sunflower days pins, nail files and merchandise and by holding events.
Sunflower Days also offers an opportunity for local hospices to nominate their sunflower heroes, volunteers or hospice supporters who deserve special recognition. The Hospice Sunflower Heroes are acknowledged at a ceremony at the launch of Sunflower Days.

The bereavement pin was developed by Dr Susan Delaney, Irish Hospice Foundation Bereavement Services Manager. It was based on similar concept developed in Australia. The pin was designed by jewellery designer , Alan Ardiff and manufactured by jeweller Don McManus.
The pin was launched in April 2009 by Pat Kenny. It was made available at no charge to hospice and bereavement groups and sold through the Kilkenny Design shops. IHF also commissioned 20 limited edition silver pins which were given to IHF Board members and people who had made a significant contribution to the work of IHF.
